The
lamp presents the form of an imaginary television set. The
design combines contemporary style with the aesthetic of
the early Bakelite television set. The ‘television
screen’ is, in this case, a void revealing the wall
behind, onto which a ‘test card’ pattern of coloured
bands is projected (using hidden tinted lenses). These
coloured bands magically appear when the lamp is
illuminated.
Two polycarbonate injection
mouldings form the basis of the design. The polycarbonate
can be opal or have a translucent tint.
