To complement the GreenLight Programme, and to promote the use of energy-efficient lighting also in the domestic sector, the European Commission has established in 1999 the European Design Competition "Lights of the Future". This competition is held every second year (2000, 2002, 2004) and it has been established as one of the key awards for professional designers, design students, and luminaires manufacturers.
The aim of the Competition is to encourage and promote innovative, highly attractive and decorative designs of energy efficient dedicated lighting fixtures for the residential market.
